Frequently Asked Questions ?

When are the US CMA exam windows in 2026?

The IMA holds three test windows each year, with each window lasting two months. The test windows for 2026 are:

  1. January 1 to February 28 (Registration Deadline: February 15)

  2. May 1 to June 30 (Registration Deadline: June 15)

  3. September 1 to October 31 (Registration Deadline: October 15)

In your chosen test window, you can pick your own exam date and time. There is no pre-assigned exam date.

What is the registration deadline for each CMA exam window - and what happens if I miss it?

You must register by the 15th of the last month in each test window: February 15, June 15, and October 15. If you miss this deadline, you will have to wait for the next window, which could delay your certification by about 2 to 3 months. To avoid last-minute issues and to book your Prometric slot in advance, it is recommended to register 3 to 4 weeks before the deadline.

Can I take both Part 1 and Part 2 in the same testing window?

Yes, you can take both parts in the same testing session. However, you cannot attempt the same part twice during one testing window. If you take Part 1 and do not pass, you will have to wait until the next testing window to retake it. Many examinees prefer to take each part during different testing windows for better preparation, but taking both in one window is also possible.

How do I actually schedule my exam date after registering with IMA?

Once you have registered with IMA and paid the exam registration fees, you will be sent an Authorization to Test (ATT).

  • You will then need to do the following:

  • Visit the Prometric Website

  • Enter your ATT details

  • Select the part of the exam you wish to take

  • Choose your test centre

  • Schedule your chosen appointment slot

Can I take the CMA exam online from home, or do I have to go to a test centre?

You can only take the CMA exam at centers authorized by Prometric. There is no option for home-based testing for the CMA exam. Prometric testing centers are located in major cities in India, such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Pune.

What happens to my exam slot if I need to reschedule?

It is possible for you to reschedule your exam during the same test window:

  • More than 30 days before: Free

  • Within 3 to 30 days before: Fee of $50

  • Within less than 3 days before: Not allowed

It is not possible to reschedule your test date outside of the test window you had chosen. In such cases, you will need to re-register.

When do CMA exam results come out after I sit for the exam?

The results are normally made public approximately six weeks after the month that you write the examination.

For instance:

  • January examination attempt: mid March

  • October examination attempt: mid December

Scores are updated in your IMA profile. Earlier access to the results is not possible.

Is there a major change coming to the CMA exam format in 2026 I should know about?

Yes, beginning with the September-October 2026 examination period, the essay section of the CMA test will be replaced by Case Based Questions (CBQs). These CBQs are scenario based questions and will evaluate one's ability to think analytically and make decisions through systematic inputs rather than writing an essay.

Implementation Timeline

  • January/February 2026: No change, MCQs and essays will remain the same for the exam.

  • May/June 2026 (Transition window): Candidates have options to either attempt the essay paper or CBQs paper.

  • September/October 2026 and onwards: CBQs will be made compulsory worldwide, except in some areas such as China, Japan and Taiwan.

Which window is best for a working professional in India: January-February, May-June, or September-October?

The best time for testing will always vary from person to person, depending on their personal calendar.

  • January-February: Good if you prefer to start early

  • May-June: Good if the first term is hectic

  • September-October: Popular period due to mid-year location

The critical consideration is straightforward:

Select a testing window only if you have enough time to study.

How does EduMont help me plan and schedule my CMA exam correctly?

EduMont helps you plan and schedule your CMA exam through structured, step-by-step guidance.

Instead of leaving you to figure out timelines on your own, mentors map your attempt based on your actual level of preparation through Game Plan Calls. This ensures you register, receive your ATT, and schedule your exam at the right time.

Your preparation is supported with unlimited access to UWorld and mock tests for consistent practice, along with live concept-focused classes that prioritise understanding over rote learning.

In simple terms, the approach is clear: plan properly, execute with discipline, and aim for a first-attempt pass.

What if I enrolled with EduMont but my preparation isn't ready in time for a window - can EduMont help me shift to the next one?

If your preparation isn’t where it should be, you should not force an attempt. Here at EduMont, it is all about doing the exam only when you have prepared yourself thoroughly for it.

So if for any reason, you do not feel that you are not up for it for any particular window: Your Game Plan will be changed according to your present status. It will be ensured that you make a move to another suitable window instead of risking a weak attempt

The approach is simple: One well prepared attempt is always better than a rushed one followed by a retake.
