CPA Exam Schedule 2026 – Frequently Asked Questions ?

What are the CPA exam dates in 2026?

The pattern in which the CPA exam is conducted in 2026 is as follows:

Core Exams (AUD, FAR, REG): Continuously throughout the year

Discipline Exams (BAR, ISC, TCP): January, April, July, and October only

The CPA Core Exams can be taken whenever a candidate wants to take them, but in the case of Discipline Exams, they have to be planned in advance.

Can I take AUD, FAR, and REG anytime?

Yes. The Core sections follow a continuous testing model, and this means that:
Tests can be taken on most days that a Prometric centre is open
There are no testing windows to be concerned with
Retests can be scheduled with no waiting period

This is only valuable if accompanied by structured preparation.

What is the NTS and what happens if it expires?

The Notice to Schedule (NTS) is an official document issued by NASBA that will enable you to schedule your CPA exam.

Validity Period: 6 months

If expired: Fees will be forfeited and a new application will be required

It is recommended that you only apply for NTS if you are ready to schedule your exam within the validity period.

How quickly can I schedule a Prometric slot after receiving my NTS?

You can usually book your Prometric slot twenty-four hours after receiving your NTS for the CPA exam.

However it is important to note that slots in India fill up quickly.

You may not get your slots if you wait too long to book them.

It is highly recommended that you book your slot thirty to forty-five days in advance for the CPA exam.

When are CPA exam scores released in 2026?

Core AUD, FAR, REG Sections: Results are released in intervals of 1-2 weeks
Discipline Sections: Results are released 6-10 weeks after the testing window has closed
Results are released online through the NASBA portal. Plan your next step in accordance with these time frames.

What is the 18-month rule in the CPA exam?

Earlier, candidates had an 18-month window to complete all sections of the CPA exam. Under the updated rules, candidates now get 30 months to pass all remaining sections after clearing their first CPA exam paper.
The 30 month window starts from the date you pass your first section
You must complete all remaining sections within this period
If not, your earliest passed section expires and must be retaken

Can I reschedule my CPA exam?

Yes, but fees vary with the time:
More than 30 days prior to the exam date: No fees charged
5 to 30 days prior to the exam date: Fee for rescheduling is applicable
Less than 5 days prior to the exam date: Higher fees charged
Within 24 hours prior to the exam date: Fees are non-refundable
Rescheduling should be avoided unless necessary, as it increases cost and causes disruption.

Where can I take the CPA exam in India?

CPA exams can be taken at Prometric centres in:
Ahmedabad
Bangalore
Chennai
Hyderabad
Kolkata
Mumbai
New Delhi
Trivandrum

Indian candidates are also required to pay an International Testing Fee (approximately $390 per section).

Is there a registration deadline for the CPA exam in 2026?

There is no fixed registration deadline.

However, planning depends on the NTS (Notice to Schedule):
NTS approval takes 6 - 8 weeks
Once received, you can schedule your exam shortly after
The NTS is valid for a limited period (typically 6 months)

In practice, start registration at least 6 - 8 weeks before your intended exam date, especially for Discipline sections with fixed windows.

What is the passing score for the CPA exam?

The minimum score to pass all sections of the CPA exam is seventy-five, which ranges from zero to ninety-nine.

This score is not a percentage or a percentile. A scaled score set by the exam body for the CPA exam.
Passing a score of seventy-five does not mean that you answered seventy-five percent of the questions correctly.

It means that you performed to the standard set by the exam body for the CPA exam.

The pass rates for the CPA exam range between forty-five and fifty-five percent, which reflects the difficulty level of the CPA exam.

In what order should I take the CPA exam sections?

The order in which these sections should be written is:
FAR
AUD
REG
Discipline Section

The FAR section should always come first because it provides a solid conceptual background for the other sections. It also allows for a clear start to the 30 month window.
