Frequently Asked Questions ?

What is the US CPA course?

The US CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is a professional accounting qualification issued by AICPA, equivalent to India's CA.

It covers auditing, taxation, financial reporting, and advisory services, and is recognized in 130+ countries. It consists of 4 exam sections and can be completed in 12-18 months from India.

I already have B.Com / CA Inter / MBA, why do US CPA?

The US CPA is a globally respected certification that can be completed in just 12–18 months, making it much faster than many other accounting qualifications.

It is recognized in 130+ countries, opening doors to international career opportunities. Additionally, CPAs typically earn 20–40% higher salaries as compared to non-certified peers, making it a strong investment for long-term career growth.

Who is eligible for the US CPA course in India?

Indian students need a minimum of 120 US credit hours (including 24 in accounting) to sit the US CPA exam. Most B.Com + M.Com, CA, and MBA graduates are directly eligible. 3-year B.Com graduates typically need a bridge course to cover the credit gap.

What are the total fees for the US CPA course in India in 2026?

For an Indian student, the total cost of becoming a US CPA is split into: the official exam fees paid to NASBA and the coaching and study materials.

The official exam fees are paid to NASBA and the US State Board of Accounting, which add up to about $3,965.

This includes:
$250 for the evaluation fee
$140 for the state board registration fee
$900 per exam section × 4 sections (each section consists of $390 exam fee + $510 international testing fee)

(Converted on 25.03.26 at the rate of $1 = ₹94, this comes to roughly ₹3,72,610.)

The coaching and study materials usually cost extra. Most Indian students spend between ₹4.5 to 6 lakhs in total. If you need to retake any exams, the cost will go up.

How long does the US CPA course take in India?

The US CPA takes 12-18 months for working professionals studying 8-10 hours per week, or 9-12 months studying full-time. All 4 sections must be cleared within 30 months of passing the first. EduMont's structured program is designed for working professionals.

What are the 4 sections of the US CPA exam?

The CPA exam has 3 mandatory core sections - AUD (Auditing), FAR (Financial Accounting), and REG (Taxation) - plus 1 discipline section you choose: BAR (Business Analysis), ISC (Information Systems), or TCP (Tax Compliance). This is the CPA Evolution model, launched in January 2024.

Can I do the US CPA course after B.Com in India?

Yes, but most 3-year B.Com graduates have 90 credits and need a bridge course to reach the 120-credit requirement. EduMont's bridge course covers this in 3-6 months.

B.Com graduates with 8+ accounting-specific subject credits may qualify under a special rule even with 90 total credits.

What is the salary of a US CPA in India?

A newly qualified US CPA in India earns ₹8-24+ LPA on average.

With 5+ years of experience at Big 4 firms, mid-level salaries reach ₹24-50+ LPA. Senior CPAs at MNCs and in leadership roles earn ₹50 LPA-1+ Cr or more.

CPAs who move to the US start at $60,000-$80,000+.

Where can I take the US CPA exam in India?

The US CPA exam is available at Prometric test centres in 8 Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Thiruvananthapuram. You schedule your exam at prometric.com after receiving your NTS from NASBA.

Is US CPA recognised in India or only abroad?

Yes. The US CPA is recognized and valued by Big 4 firms, GCCs, and MNCs operating in India. Indian subsidiaries of US companies often require CPA-qualified professionals for US GAAP reporting and audit roles. Its recognition in India has grown significantly over the past decade.

What is the CPA Evolution model?

The CPA Evolution is the redesigned CPA exam launched in January 2024. It replaced the old 4 uniform sections with a 3+1 structure: 3 mandatory core sections (AUD, FAR, REG) plus 1 discipline section of your choice (BAR, ISC, or TCP). The discipline reflects your chosen specialization in accounting.

Can I do the US CPA after CA?

Yes, Indian CAs are among the strongest CPA candidates. CA qualifications typically satisfy the 120-credit requirement, making most CAs directly eligible. CPA adds US GAAP expertise and global recognition to a CA's profile, and is increasingly common at Big 4 India offices.

What is the difference between the US CPA and the Indian CA?

US CPA is issued by AICPA, takes 12-18 months, and is recognized globally, including in the US, Canada, and Australia. An Indian CA is issued by ICAI, takes 4-5+ years, and is the stronger credential for domestic Indian practice. CPA opens US career pathways; CA is better for Indian regulatory work. Many Indian CAs add CPA for international roles.
